About

Leendert van Doorn

I’m a Senior Vice President at Qualcomm where I’m responsible for our software strategy, AI software deliverables and I’m helping out our datacenter teams. Until May 2022 I was a Distinguished Engineer/VP in Microsoft’s Azure Core team where I was best known for my work to enable ARM64 servers as first-class citizens in Microsoft’s Azure datacenters. I have also been working on disaggregation and I represent Microsoft on the board of Directors for the Compute Express Link (CXL) and the Gen-Z organizations.

Before joining Microsoft, I was a Corporate Fellow/CVP at AMD where I was responsible for AMD’s security efforts, software innovations and I was the technical executive during the creation of AMD’s China JV.

I joined AMD from IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center, where I was a Researcher and Sr. Manager leading the secure systems team, the ethical hackers team and a security usability and privacy team. At IBM I worked on physically secure coprocessors, secure Hypervisors, TPM’s, wireless security scanners and I added full virtualization support to Xen in collaboration with Intel and AMD.

When conference calls and meetings are getting too much, I have been known to find refuge at CMU ECE where I am an adjunct professor.

I hold a Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and an engineering degree from the HTS in The Hague, The Netherlands.
